The Confusing Perspectives about Donald Trump

Donald Trump’s glorious diplomatic visit to the UK is in the history books. Did everyone see where a former Scottish First Minister released a statement that flatters his greatness? Just look at this pic of the enormous rally in the UK cheering him on that’s even larger than his massive inauguration in Washington! He’s being welcomed like the great leader he is after all the real work he’s gotten done.

Except all of that is the exact opposite of what happened, hell has not frozen over, and this is actually a rally against this man in a separate country who’s considered one of our closest allies. And they’re not even acknowledging those crippling bone spurs that kept him out of the draft. Sad.

It could be because they don’t like his attitude. It could be because they don’t like his haircut. Or it could be because he just referred to the entire EU as “foes” (yes, he said it). No, the UK is no longer part of the EU — but in case you don’t understand modern diplomacy, success is usually predicated on making and keeping good relationships — not ignorantly opposing the rest of the world. That’s only for Philadelphia sports fans.

I actually registered as a Republican when I turned 18 back in the late 90’s. But something in the party has drastically changed since then, and it clearly is not their tendency to elect old white guys. This man is not the sort of leader Republicans of the 90’s would have been proud of, and that’s putting it mildly.

So how are so many Americans today still under the impression that “we finally have a leader that the rest of the world respects?” This is absurd. By and large, Barack Obama was widely revered by just about every major leader around the world — obviously excluding such sweethearts as Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un. But even Chinese president Xi Jinping respected Obama.

By contrast, Trump is publicly mocked, ridiculed, and is an overall laughing stock in broad daylight by our own allies — not to mention our enemies. He seems to have no diplomacy, social prowess, or understanding of relationahips whatsoever. How is this comparable? Hell, even Stalin and Hitler knew how to maintain alliances.

Okay, I’m not comparing Trump to murderous dictators with bad mustaches. That’s clearly offensive, and it would surely mean either myself or the offended party were a “snowflake” (I’m not sure how that word works anymore). And maybe everyone doesn’t care about diplomacy and global cooperation. So then, what exactly is important? Is it another push for tax cuts that largely benefit wealthy corporations — because that’s what the average American wants, right? Big banks and big corporations in bed with big government? No? This baffles me.

Maybe it’s that he also wants to use absolute authority to prohibit an ongoing investigation against him for what is being uncovered as the biggest scandal since Watergate (maybe even more “bigly”). But in spite of mountains of indisputable evidence and indictments, he’s still getting a pass there. Hell, he’s even getting a pass for extramarital affairs by the evangelical right. Apparently well-known sexual assault allegations and adultery are only a no-no if you’re from Hollywood or a Clinton — how on earth do you get bailed out from “Grab ’em by the pussy?” Again…baffled.

The man deserves some credit for the economic success we are currently experiencing — but most experts also agree that the upturn is a continuation of what began during Obama’s second term. I’ll still commend Trump for sustaining this growth and for instilling market confidence, and I won’t even ask for any reciprocal credit for Obama. Just because I like ya’ a lot.

But it’s not as if the market hasn’t had its major downswings. This is in no small part to initiating new tariffs that beget retailations by key allies and partners. Economists say this in particular might have dubious long term effects. Which is exactly what my doctor said to me about the half bottle of bourbon I drink every night, so it can’t be good.

But at least our POTUS lives his every waking moment on Twitter, making up infantile nicknames for anyone who opposes him with all the emotional restraint of a drunk teenage girl who just got dumped — discrediting all but the media that worships him unconditionally. How very thick-skinned and presidential — shucking the trend of all those restrained “career politicians.” Meanwhile, he can’t even get 9th grade grammar correct with a spell check feature and the help of the college dropout who delivers his KFC.

Trump is often busy watching Fox News most of his mornings, which is typically reported to be where he gets his intel — and golfing more than any other President in history. This is evidence of how much he relates to working class regular Americans who all got multi-million dollar gifts from their parents to kick off their commercial real estate careers. He’s like a modern day Kylie Jenner! Pulled up by his bootstraps with dirty hands!

And how’s that wall coming along that the Mexican president who despises him is definitely going to pay for? Oh, right… And mass shootings? On pace to set records. And that new healthcare plan that can’t be figured out, even with a Republican majority in every chamber and court? Yes, you were right, Donald, that stuff is complicated. If only you actually had some qualifications or understanding of basic law, it might come easier. It also might be less of a chore if many experts weren’t earnestly wondering if you may be dealing with early-stage dementia.

Well, at least that North Korea summit was something — yep, those nukes will be gone any day now. Any…day…now…

By all means, though, let’s keep skyrocketing the debt (something the GOP gave such a shit about for 8 years) with “really stable genius” stuff like a space force. It is ass-clinchingly maddening that people in this country are incapable of treating the actions and results of political figures equally. All due to party affiliation.

Meanwhile, he keeps filling the seemingly endless new vacancies in his own cabinet with more business cronies and incompetent shrews — but hey, they’re from the correct party, so “the swamp is being drained,” isn’t it?

How in the depths of Hades does this man keep getting the thumbs up from people? Do they all simply believe they are the enlightened minority, and every credible journalistic source and mind around the world are conspiring against them? Laughing off experts who are just face-palming at how hard-working, middle class people could be so trusting of a silver spoon-fed blowhard who often makes policy solely for the one percent?

Okay, I realize the horse I’m beating is quite dead.

This is by no means an ovation for Obama or any other liberal, but it is what genuinely bends my mind. I honestly don’t care which side of the aisle you stand on: right, left, middle, or Switzerland. This rhetoric of “greatest president ever” is being sung by people who don’t seem to have a clue what goes on outside of their little bubbles of “I’m Right Dot Com.” It’s a website we all visit at times, but I think it’s gotten pretty out of hand. Do Trump supporters ever look around and see their peers financially or emotionally struggling — is anything suddenly better under Trump? Could it be that people are being conned by these swindlers who don’t give a damn about the real working class?

This pattern of deception certainly isn’t owned by only one political party — but it’s clearly married to this administration. And scoffing “fake news” at every legitimate report you disagree with is just intellectually dishonest. No American should trust a leader so consistently torn to shreds by nearly every accredited fact-checking institution — especially if it’s simply because you believe he’s Christian or hard-working or whatever else you believe in. Because this regime has proven to be none of that. Many attacks on Trump and his underlings carry immense merit. So from where does this sincere loyalty derive, if not an emotional, blind devotion to party over country and an echo chamber of like-minded people?

Or maybe everyone really does just love that “he speaks his mind.” What do I know? I recently seem to be losing my own.
